General Discussion / Re: Prusa PEI coating
« on: January 06, 2019, 11:39:37 PM »
Itís a common issue with the Prusa pei sticker sheet. PLA sticks great when itís new but the coating wears over time and, whilst acetone rejuvenation can improve things sometimes, the Prusa sheet never gets back to its best again.

Iíve noticed the same thing. I used PETG on one side for a few weeks and the side that was against the heated bed lost much of its adhesion properties to PLA simply through prolonged heat transfer. Acetone did help rejuvenate it a little but it was still far less adhesive to PLA than it used to be - and the damaged side was only used a couple times before being flipped for a few weeks PETG usage.

Glue stick and hairspray make PLA stick again, but I know you just want it to stick to the PEI sheet again.

Off topic slightly... Interestingly Iíve found, contrary to others experiences, PETG sticks just right to the Prusa PEI sticker sheet. Iíve read so many accounts of people tearing up and ruining their PEI stickers when trying to get their PETG models off the build plate cos they stick too well, but Iíve printed directly onto the surface since I first got the MK3 and Iíve never had an issue getting PETG off or damaged the build plate. After printing with PETG filament all my PLAís donít stick well to the side that Iíve used the PETG on though. Even after an 100% acetone clean PLA wonít stick well.

TPU Flex definitely grips REALLY well, but a quick coating of glue stick before the print helps make it come off easier. Whilst itís still tough to remove, TPU hasnít torn or scarred my Prusa PEI sticker yet either. Iím looking forward to testing the powder coated PEI surface when it FINALLY arrives.

Like it! That's really cool.

Guys, if you have any interest in gaming and access to a PS3, Xbox One, a Mac, or a PC with Windows or Linux, go check out Portal (part of 'The Orange Box' collection) or Portal 2.  Portal is an absolutely genius 3D platforming puzzle game with one of the most memorable adversaries and, in the case of Portal 2, best stories within a campaign mode in modern gaming.  Portal one is fairly short and sets the scene for the concept of 3D portal puzzle solving.  Portal 2 takes it to a whole other level.  Plus, Steve Merchant joins you in Portal 2 and provides plenty comedy as your robot companion.  It's legitimately one of the best games ever made - though there are quite a few video games on that list these days.  I wouldn't normally champion a computer game, but Portal 2 is just that good.

Here's a taster:

Just don't believe in the cake.  The cake's a lie.

Amelia, it looks like you're one talented newbie!  Your prints look great, well done.

Let us know what printer and software you are using and, most of all, keep having fun.

Sorry to hear that Hozza. That's a shame.  :-/

My other half is allergic to 3D printing. Whenever my printing equipment is dumped all over her kitchen her face flares up all red and she suffers from uncontrollable fits of verbal abuse!   Actually, I'm more the one that suffers!

Out of interest, if you're selling, how much you wanting for the D100 and can I ask where you're based?

How much does the resin cost? Is it easy to get lots of colours?

That's a shame.  Was really hoping it would be good stuff.  Their website bangs on about every roll having a tolerance of no more than 0.06mm iirc which shouldn't cause any feeding issues.  Maybe worth telling them of your issues?  Could be grounds for some free replacement reels or a refund?

SLA vs Delta

The SLA version is a much sharper print but my mini delta makes a pretty good job of it to  ~~

That's really impressive quality for such a low cost sla printer.  You've got me tempted now!

How many vape pen thingys have you built? Think I've seen a few? I like the blue led action.

I built an enxlusure from those ikea lack tables and a combination of various mods and my own designs. I'll pop up some pics when I get a minute.

Sorry to hear some of you are having issues with Prusa related updates.  I upgraded the i3 MK3 firmware and installed the newest PrusaPrint and Slic3r Prusa Edition and haven't experienced any issues yet.  All my settings were there on first run of the software and it's been behaving itself ok.  I'm running it on Mac btw.

Back on topic, The o.h. wanted me to move my MK3 off the kitchen worktop and into the enclosure I've been building (can't think why as It looked right at home amongst the baking mess and cooking utensils!?) so I designed a clip on solution to feed filament from a bearing runner on the floor to the top of the Prusa.  The MK3 still gets to print to full height without any problem and the extruder stepper motor has no issue when pulling the filament through.  Works nicely.

I wont be going got let down with a lift  but heres a video of the new Duet 3

Yeah, so if that's a average example of an exhibitors stand I think I was right not to travel.       I'm sure that Duet 3 board thingy will allow for some pretty cool applications but that demo is pretty much lost on me!     Where's the dunce hat emoji when you need it?!

Ah, this'll do.   ;)
