OctoPi - unattended running + RPi camera
« on: December 29, 2018, 06:31:56 PM »
So I am very new to the 3d printing but tried to setup OcoPrint as I had a RPi2B kicking around. All went well until I tried to get a slicer profile from Cura 3.6.0 for my Ender 3. Looks like the feature is no longer there. Is it worth me trying to setup the slicer profile in OpcoPi manually? If so where do i start?

Basically I just wanted to use OctoPi to monitor the prints, I am happy to upload the gcode from Cura so is there any real advantage to getting the slicer profile running?

I have a RPi camera arriving on Monday so I will feel happier running the printer unattended, well upstairs anyway

Cheers for any advice.

OK just finished setting up OctoPi on an old RPI 2B and works well. It's does take a few mins to boot up and I am running it on ethernet so no wifi to mess about with.
RPi camera V2 arrived this afternoon so blu tacked it up and all working well. I watched it print a camera mount not a perfect one as I couldn't find one I liked so just one that I thought would be OK for now. Printed fine apart from I forgot to tick the 'add supports' in Cura!!  :banghead: Oh well that's a noob for you  ::)

Slotted into case with a little tweek from a craft knife as I was a little worried it was too tight a fit. Then the camera wouldn't work!!! Figured it out, I had dislodged the camera from the pcb. Clicked back an all well.

Tweeked the octopi.txt to set the camera to 'camera_raspi_options="-x 1640 -y 1232 -fps 10 -quality 95"'
and it seems quite good.

Not set it up to get through the router as I wouldn't leave it alone in the house   ::) ::) ::) ::)

I think it's a great way to repurpose my old RPi2.  Plus nice and easy to upload gcode without swapping sd cards...
