3D Scanning using a Microsoft XBox Kinect
« on: November 09, 2017, 10:27:21 AM »
If you're looking to try your hand at 3D scanning but don't want to break the bank, fear not. Using an XBox 360 kinect which costs around 15 on ebay, you can 3D scan to a surprisingly high quality with very little effort.

Here's my video on how to do it:

There is a Kinect with all PC leads/connectors winging (well, probably crawling) its way to me.

Kinect arrived, up and working so have run quickly through the scan and build process by producing some quick n dirty low quality results done just for burning the process into the brain rather than achieving a finite end result first time out.

Even with poor lighting, poor positioning, etc, the raw result was much better than I expected.

Now to build a scan table..................

If you get bored do what I did, set it up in the middle of your livingroom and let it scan the entire room.... the effect is quite amazing and more than a little creepy when you rotate the image to look at the rear of room objects that wernt scanned... proper messes with your head
